saw a red bearded boy in the coffeeshop

maybe we were not friends

as i stood near the boy in the coffeeshop
something was sad his eyes
we were both much to tired at the
end of the night
we did not wish to be recognized

cuz catching up is so much work
it's hard to hold a smile
as you briefly recall what you have not done with your life

though you grew up with everything you could dream up
in the glow of the cells of a screen

the woman you love is your home
and you still have no money, the debts you can't pay
but you know you are never alone

so you smile at the boy in the coffeeshop
you're so different and also the same
he is older and tired and sad at the world
he has grown and he hasn't much changed
